Balzac presents, therefore, a realistic portrait, but also psychological, as "authentic provincial nobility," which at the time was deeply aggrieved by the events of 1789: the French Revolution. On Esgrignon, despite being a noble family ruined by the abolition of the nobility and forgotten by the Second madia Restoration, lives with all sorts of claims in an attempt to reach a social position that will never be achieved. Balzac, therefore, as has been said, with some irony draws a leadership that refuses to be defeated by the passage madia of time and social changes irreversible. The result can be no other than shares of a noble but now ridiculous and out of place. The description on page twenty-four of the old cabinet, the show marks the Esgrignon which meets the nobility leaves no doubts: "Under those empostissats, tinsel a time that no longer exists, it is moved in front eight or ten wealthy widows, some of the wobbly head, the other black and parched like mummies; These stiff, the other linked to all cumbersome costumes more or less opposed to outlandish fashion [...]. The work, published by Editions year 1984 has been translated by Anna Casassas and, therefore, is of great quality. In the Catalan translation preserves the essence of the original French: Balzac style permeates every line, and the use of terms adapted to the time. In short, an interesting novel to understand the historical moment that gave rise to the Second Restoration.
